StorageDNA introduces 8 new products for LTO-5 with LTFS archiving

StorageDNA introduces eight new LTO-5 LTFS archiving solutions….complete turnkey solutions starting at $7,995

StorageDNA has introduced eight turnkey bundles with the StorageDNA Evolution technology with LTO-5/LTFS archive and synchronization for rich media workflows.  Tridib Chakravarty, C.E.O. of StorageDNA announces “With the introduction of open source LTFS, StorageDNA has created a usable archive and automated back up allowing editorial, graphics, audio the seamless ability to develop simple archive and retrieval workflows.  By introducing the D-100, X and N Series, our clients can now get a StorageDNA Evolution with LTO-5 turnkey solution with the entry pricing under $8,000.  We found that our resellers and clients were looking to have one company bundle and support cost competitive turnkey work flow solutions.  DNA Evolution has made efficient archiving cost effective.”

Mike Cavanagh, President of Key Code Media (a west coast video integrator and reseller) states “DNASync allowed clients to nearline their Avid and Apple Final Cut projects on lower cost disks.  DNA Evolution utilizing LTFS now allows for an exponentially scalable archive solution on a secure and robust medium.  Our clients are constantly running out of storage limiting their capacity to run multiple projects while awaiting approvals on other jobs.  DNA Evolution now allows archiving up to 1.5 terabytes which equals 15 hours of HDCam footage.  The cool aspect is the automation and process rules for ease of use and integrity of the back up where any creative editorial suite can easily deploy within their business.”

StorageDNA Evolution provides real time archive, snap shot, DNA Evolution can retrieve entire projects from Nearline to online storage. Alternatively, DNA Evolution enables editors to retrieve specific sequences. DNA Evolution supports both AAF (Avid) and XML (Final Cut) based retrievals allowing maximization of storage for your online SAN, while easily allowing retrieval of projects or clips.   DNA Evolution archive clients can upload extracted metadata, generated previews (*) to the controller. Once uploaded, the content can be browsed, played, downloaded and searched for via the DNA Evolution web interface.  DNA Evolution utilizes checksum and delete algorithms. These algorithms are built for LTO-5 tape and the newer LTFS file system. Delete algorithms ensure media is truly on tape before being deleted from primary disk or removable media.  DNA Evolution runs in three modes enabling archiving, snapshots and migration. Archive is useful for protecting raw footage and exported sequences. Snapshots offer instant recovery during a project, while migration offers the ability to migrate media based on activity.

ASSIMILATE Realizes Record Sales of SCRATCH into RED Workflows in 2010

January 11, 2011 Leave a comment

Key Code Media is proud to relay the latest information from Assimilate. Although there were two recent shifts within Assimilate where Tony and Lucas both left to pursue career changes, Assimilate quickly secured new employees and with the strong growth, we foresee a great year helping our clients invest in Scratch and RED workflows.

Latest SCRATCH Version Includes Support for RMD, REDGamma2, and REDColor

January 11, 2011, Santa Clara, CA, USA – ASSIMILATE (www.assimilateinc.com), a leading provider of powerful post-production tools for digital workflows, today underscored its long-term leadership in supporting 4K set-to-post workflows for RED Digital Cinema camera systems, with the announcement that it realized a 40 percent year-over-year increase of SCRATCH® sales into RED features, commercials, broadcast and music video projects.

The company also experienced record revenue for SCRATCH sales in 2010. New features harnessing the power of SCRATCH include director John Cameron Mitchell’s Rabbit Hole, starring Nicole Kidman, and director Doug Liman’s Fair Game, starring Naomi Watts and Sean Penn. Post production for both films was done by Offhollywood (NYC).

ASSIMILATE maintained its tradition of spearheading support for native RED digital workflows, with the recent v5.2 update to SCRATCH, which supports new technologies including REDColor2, REDGamma2, RED Meta Data (RMD), and is available free to SCRATCH users under maintenance.

“The great thing about SCRATCH is that it always evolves so rapidly when RED changes,” said Arnaud Paris, co-founder and stereographer, Sysmic Films in France. “ASSIMILATE is always the first to react, while others can take weeks or months. Others may claim they have the same workflow, but it’s just not the case.”

With the imminent release of RED’s new Epic camera, ASSIMILATE has already begun working with 5K test footage shot by the first RED Epic users, including New York-based OffHollywood. ASSIMILATE will ship SCRATCH with full Epic support when RED makes the final SDK available.

“The ASSIMILATE team is to be applauded for continually blazing the trail with RED, and for making SCRATCH workflows ready so quickly for early adopters,” said Mark Pederson, CTO and co-founder, Offhollywood. “SCRATCH gives us an extremely rich toolset that smoothly handles any RED footage and metadata. We look forward to the same rock solid support for Epic.”

SCRATCH is the industry’s most comprehensive, high-performance digital cinema and broadcast imaging tool for dailies, conforming, color grading and finishing. Resolution independent, SCRATCH supports native RED 4K, RED MX, RED MX-3D, and ALEXA ARRIRAW, as well as 3D, HD/SD, DPX, AVID MXF, film, or any mix of formats. The SCRATCH v5.2 robust core feature set includes data management, review/playback, conform/editorial, dailies, color grading, compositing, finishing, and final mastering to virtually any format, including DCP.

Jeff Edson, CEO, ASSIMILATE, stated, “SCRATCH is a mature, battle-tested tool suite, with an esteemed pedigree in features, videos, and commercials. Our 2010 sales achievements are a testament to the fact that hundreds of filmmakers and post houses rely on SCRATCH to maximize their creativity and productivity while working in digital workflows. We were one of the very first companies to support native RED formats and we are committed to delivering the most intuitive, stable and reliable suite of tools for the post-production of RED projects.”
