Transcoding and IBC

August 24, 2013 Leave a comment

Attending IBC and looking into transcoding?

Root6 will be showcasing the latest release of Content Agent at 7.E21.  We’ll have the latest rev in conjunction with IBC.  Card based file workflows and integration into Avid’s MediaComposer, Isis and Interplay workflow is excellent.  Key Code Media has our system connected to Isis, MediaComposer and Interplay.

Card Based Workflows
ContentAgent now supports P2, XDCAM, XDCAM EX, AVC-HD and Canon XF card structures from broadcast cameras, importing both media and metadata before transcoding or rewrapping in the user’s desired format. We will also be demonstrating automated card based ingest direct into Avid Interplay.

Advanced Frame Rate Conversion
ContentAgent’s Advanced Frame Rate Conversion module replaces expensive legacy baseband workflows with a powerful, resolution independent , file-based tool. Utilising state of the art CPU and GPU  processing, the new tool facilitates not only traditional PAL/NTSC conversions, but expands across all frame rates, deals with field order/progressive frames/cadence issues and scales across all resolutions to 4K. Find out more here.

AMWA AS-11 DPP Compatibility
One of the first products on the market to be fully DPP compliant, ContentAgent will be shown with a fully automated AMWA AS-11 DPP workflow for broadcast file and metadata deliverables, integrated with automated, file based QC.
Hot News – GoPro Automation
With the rising popularity of GoPro cameras in professional production environments, ContentAgent now supports GoPro media, with multi frame rate capability for slo-mo and timecode generation.

JPEG2000 Encoding
New JPEG2000 encoding with MXF OP1a wrapping provides a valuable tool for those in broadcast and archive environments.

New Suite of Colour Mapping Tools
The suite of colour mapping tools now available in ContentAgent enables LUTs to be applied to files in any format – a benefit when moving between different colour spaces. In a RED environment, RED RMD colour grade files may also be applied to RED R3D clips.

Cloud Based Rendering technology presentation
In a private demo area, IBC attendees can get a peek at some of the technology under development which will be available in later software releases.  Here, ContentAgent will be demonstrated in a live Cloud/VM environment showing infinitely scalable cloud-based rendering.

Avid MediaComposer NitrisDX and MojoDX features not presently on AJA, Blackmagic and Matrox

December 8, 2011 Leave a comment

Couple limitations not presently working with the MediaComposer using 3rd party hardware.  Just a fyi

With this release, the 3rd party hardware plug-ins will not be able to support the entire feature set of the editing application and therefore will not support the following in the Avid editing application:
•           Ancillary Data
•           LTC Input and Output
•           Stereoscopic Full Frame Capture and Output
•           Audio Punch-In
•           Utilize any Hardware Codec Modules
•           Universal Mastering (Frame & Signal Convert to a Different Format)

Key Code Media is hosting a webinar today going over “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” of MediaComposer 6.0 at 11am and 1pm PST.

Avid Compatibility with Mac OS X Lion (10.7), Info for ProTools and MediaComposer

Product Compatibility: New Mac OS X Lion (v10.7) Under Evaluation with Media Composer and Symphony
The new Mac OS X Lion (v10.7) was released by Apple on July 20th as a download from the Mac App Store.  This new OS X Lion (10.7) is currently under evaluation with both Media Composer and Symphony.  Qualification for this operating system is a top priority and supported configurations will be announced at a future date.

Product Compatibility: Mac OS X Lion (10.7) Under Evaluation for Use with Pro Tools Avid is excited to see that Apple’s new Mac OS X Lion (10.7) operating system is now available for download from the Mac App Store. However, please note that at this time, Pro Tools 9—including Pro Tools HD 9 and Pro Tools MP 9—and all earlier versions of the software are not compatible with Mac OS X Lion. Our top priority is to provide you with a fully compatible version as soon as possible. We’re currently working with Apple and will notify you as soon as we have something ready. That said, Pro Tools SE software, which is bundled with select M-Audio products, is fully qualified for Mac OS X Lion once you download and install a patch. To do this, open Pro Tools SE on any Mac running Mac OS X Lion and run the auto-updater, which will locate the update for download and installation (it’s less than a megabyte). The patch is also available on the M-Audio site at: http://www.m-audio.com/ptseFAQ.

Avid Media Composer Smart Tool versus Classic Trim

March 17, 2011 Leave a comment

Steve Cohen comments on his blog about Avid Media Composer 5.5 and discusses the key benefits of 5.5 over Media Composer 5.0.  The big issue is a “New Coke vs. Classic Coke” of “Legacy Trim Mode versus the new Smart Tool.

You can definitely turn off the smart tool in 5.5, even more completely than you could in 5.0, and, in addition, some bugs were fixed that caused it to turn back on erroneously.

Classic/Legacy trim works as it did in 5.0.3.4, except that in a couple of subtle ways it’s even more like it was in 4.x..

The details about legacy trim are here. The page refers to 5.0, but nothing about it has changed in 5.5. It’s just gotten better.
