Avid Media Composer Smart Tool versus Classic Trim

Steve Cohen comments on his blog about Avid Media Composer 5.5 and discusses the key benefits of 5.5 over Media Composer 5.0.  The big issue is a “New Coke vs. Classic Coke” of “Legacy Trim Mode versus the new Smart Tool.

You can definitely turn off the smart tool in 5.5, even more completely than you could in 5.0, and, in addition, some bugs were fixed that caused it to turn back on erroneously.

Classic/Legacy trim works as it did in 5.0.3.4, except that in a couple of subtle ways it’s even more like it was in 4.x..

The details about legacy trim are here. The page refers to 5.0, but nothing about it has changed in 5.5. It’s just gotten better.
