Apple Announces the New Mac Pro (available in August 2010)

July 27, 2010

Apple announced the release of the new Mac Pro. The new Mac Pro offers two advanced processor options from Intel. The Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processor is available in a single-processor, quad-core configuration at speeds up to 3.2GHz. For even greater speed and power, choose the “Westmere” series, Intel’s next-generation processor based on its latest 32-nm process technology. The Mac Pro features Turbo Boost, a dynamic performance technology that automatically boosts the processor clock speed based on workload. If you’re using an application that doesn’t need every core, Turbo Boost increases the speed of the active ones, up to 3.33GHz on a 12-core Mac Pro, and up to 3.6GHz on a 6-core system.

The new Mac Pros will offer plenty of storage with the option of up to four 512 GB hard drives. An additional Mini DisplayPort has also been added that will allow users to hook up two displays without the need for an additional graphics card or adapter. This also includes faster graphics performance for intensive creative applications.

Price begins for the Quad Core ($2499.00), which will include One 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processor and ($3499.00) for the 8-core, which will include Two 2.4 GHz quad-core Intel “Xeon” Westmere” processors. Faster processors on both configurations provide even better performance on even the most demanding applications.

With up to 12 cores of processing power, this is the fastest Mac ever.

For more information in the technical specs of the new Mac Pro, visit the Apple website at: http://www.apple.com/macpro/specs.html

The Mac Pro embodies Apple’s continuing environmental commitment. It is designed with the following features to reduce it’s environememtnal impact:

Meets Energy Star 5.0 Requirements

Rated EPEAT Gold
